Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry

Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry begins with a thorough examination -- including physical and digital X-ray screening for tooth decay, gum disease, jaw and tooth alignment problems, and oral cancer -- and continuing through any necessary treatment and regular check-ups, our comprehensive dental services help you maintain healthy teeth and gums and a winning smile. Coming to the dentist for cleanings is an essential part of keeping your mouth healthy and preventing decay and disease. Further, exams aid in the early detection of any developing problems, so you can be treated for any problems sooner and more effectively. Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry includes restorative and implant dentistry, cosmetic procedures, oral surgery, complete and partial dentures, and TMJ and periodontal treatment.

Dental Implants

The healthiest thing to do when you lose a tooth is have it replaced. Otherwise, you risk problems with biting, chewing and speaking, headaches, muscle pain and an unattractive appearance. Fortunately, there are many comfortable, secure, natural-looking types of dental implants for tooth replacement.

Dental implants serve as the base for many tooth-replacement options, including bridges, dentures and individual artificial teeth. Implants are surgically implanted in the jaw to provide a comfortable, secure fit and a natural look.

In the first one or two appointments, the post or anchor is implanted in the jaw. The replacement tooth, bridge or denture is fitted and installed when the bone and gums have healed. Surgery may be performed in an office or hospital with local or general anesthesia.

TMD/Orofacial Pain Treatment

Chronic facial pain -- pain in or around the ear, tender jaw, clicking or popping noises when opening the mouth, headaches and neck aches -- may arise from many easily identifiable and treatable causes, including a sinus infection, tooth decay or gum disease. But sometimes the source is more elusive … and it may be TMD, a group of often painful disorders affecting the jaw and chewing muscles, which may ache constantly, cyclically or erratically. Although there are many causes of TMD, the common ones include:

  • Trauma to the head or neck
  • Oral habits such as clenching or grinding of the teeth
  • “Bad” bite or missing teeth
  • Arthritis
  • Malalignment of the upper and lower jawbones

Reversible/temporary treatments for TMD include arthrocentesis (lavage), stress-reducing exercises, muscle relaxants, mouth protectors to prevent teeth grinding, soft foods, heat/ice packs, avoidance of extreme jaw movements. More extensive treatments may take the form of correctional surgery or pain-relief injections, although surgery may aggravate the problem and is therefore not usually recommended.

Porcelain Laminates (Veneers)

Veneers are very thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-fit and bonded to the front sides of teeth to close gaps, cover stains and discolorations, and correct chipped or misshapen teeth to give you a bright, even, attractive smile.

Tooth Whitening

Bleaching products brighten teeth that have been stained or darkened by food, tobacco use, age or injury. There are a variety of in-office and take-home whitening products to reduce or eliminate such stains. In-office bleaching takes place over a series of one-hour appointments at the office. First, your teeth will be examined and cleaned to make sure there are no cavities, loose fillings, gum problems or other issues that may be exacerbated by the bleaching process. A custom-fit mouthtray will be made for your teeth. Then the bleaching gel is applied to your teeth in the tray.

Bridges and Crowns

Bridges are natural-looking tooth replacements which help maintain facial structure, reduce stress on the jaw and fill in the gaps caused by missing teeth. Bridges may be made of porcelain, gold, or a combination of both. Removable bridges can be taken out and cleaned at home, while fixed bridges are implanted in the jaw and bonded to the teeth with crowns or caps.

Crowns are used to strengthen and improve the shape, size or color of teeth. They can support broken or weak teeth or those with large fillings; provide a smooth, strong, attractively contoured surface for stained, misshapen or otherwise abnormal teeth; and aid in the implantation of bridges and other implants.

Periodontics

Periodontal or gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It is a leading cause of tooth loss in American adults.

Plaque is the sticky film of bacteria that is brushed and flossed away with proper oral care. When left on the teeth, plaque produces toxins that attack below the gum line in the sulcus, a shallow v-shaped crevice between the tooth and gums. This causes the bond between teeth and gums to break down.

In the early stage of gum disease (gingivitis), gums may become red and swollen and bleed easily; in the more advanced stage (periodontal disease), teeth can loosen and fall out.

Good oral hygiene and regular dental examinations are essential in the prevention and early detection of gum disease – especially since you can have it without experiencing any warning signs.

Endodontics (Root Canals)

Endodontists are specially trained to diagnose and treat problems with the insides of the teeth, including the soft tissue known as dental pulp. The most common endodontic procedure is the root canal, although endodontists also perform procedures to correct cracked and split teeth, re-treat previous procedures that have not healed properly, and diagnose oral and facial pain.

Root canals are performed to save a tooth when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected due to decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, cracks, chips or other injuries. Other, surgical endodontic procedures are helpful in a number of situations, including the diagnosis of fractures that are too small to appear on x-rays, the cleaning and sealing of calcified teeth, the extraction and replacement of damaged teeth (intentional replantation), and the removal or repair of bone or dental root. The most common of these last procedures is the apicoectomy or removal of the tip of the root.

Laser Dentistry

Lasers allow many dental procedures to be performed with no noise and very little pain. They are versatile tools that can be used in oral surgery, curing of restorative materials, and removal of hard and soft tissue. Other benefits of laser dentistry over traditional methods can include:

  • Reduced heat and vibration
  • High precision
  • Little or no need for anesthetic
  • Little or no bleeding
  • Faster treatment time
  • Increased rate of curing/bleaching
  • Less post-operative pain and swelling
  • Fewer pain medications/antibiotics

Many patients find that laser dentistry is far more comfortable than traditional methods using drills. The only noise comes from air as it cools the area being treated. Laser technology also allows several procedures to be performed during a single appointment by your own dentist, so you can be in and out of the office faster.

Pain-Free "Wand" Anesthetic Delivery

The mere sight of a syringe makes many patients wish they were somewhere other than a Dental Office.  That's not the ideal way to begin a procedure.  The revolutionary new WAND Computer Controlled Local Anesthesia Delivery System is designed to eliminate the fear, pain and anxiety associated with needles and injections.  No matter how good the Dentist's technique, patients associate the syringe with pain.  They respond with fear and anxiety despite the best efforts to distract and calm them.  The WAND greatly reduces fear and anxiety while enabling Dentist to practice more positively.

Here's what PATIENTS actually have said about the WAND.

"...that was easy. Wow!"
"...it was different. It was nice because I didn't have to wait, you could go right to work."
"...I liked that. That's neat stuff. It's about time somebody thought of that."
"...I felt a little, but I like the fact that my lip wasn't numb."

Sinus Lifts

Bone availability is the key for successful placement of dental implants in the posterior maxilla(upper back teeth). When the thickness of bone between the sinus and alveolar crest is less than 10mm, increasing the thickness of the sinus floor is advantageous to provide sufficient support to allow placement of implants  and prosthetic crowns and bridges. Surgically grafting bone to the sinus floor enables placement of implants and optimal restoration in patients missing posterior teeth and for edentulous patients requesting additional prosthesis retention.

When a patient is missing posterior teeth and desires a fixed prosthesis (Permanent Crowns and Bridges) bone grafting is often needed. Since 1994 our clinical experiences indicate that sinus grafting can provide good restoration of the posterior quadrants levels.
